Kate Munding: Dharma Talk

Hello everyone,

Sorry to have missed you last week and I’m so grateful that Eve Decker could step in and offer the Dharma talk. My voice is back, and I’m happy to be with you tomorrow night at the Monastery. Just as was planned for last week, tonight I’ll be starting a series of talks based on the Five Spiritual Powers: faith, effort, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom. These are spiritual faculties that mark the maturity of one’s practice and function as great powers of protection against doubt, apathy, and ignorance. We’ll explore this list as a way to relate to our own spiritual development as well as a way for us to understand how that spiritual development makes an impact on the forces of greed, hate, and ignorance manifesting in the world right now.
It’s been another trying week in this country with so many acts of hate and violence. It seems clear that heart practice is needed so I’ll be offering compassion meditation instructions at 7:30 instead of our usual mindfulness instructions. If you prefer to practice mindfulness instead, you’re welcome to do so, and if you wish to follow along, I’ll guide you in a very relaxing practice intended to ease anxiety, ground the mind and body, and cultivate care towards one’s self so we can better open our hearts to the world. I hope you’ll join us!
Wishing you all well,
