Tomorrow night will be my last evening with our community for a while. As I mentioned last time I taught on Thursday night, my family and I are embarking on a sailing adventure down the California and Baja coast to the Sea of Cortez. I hope to see you again in November. So for the time being, come join me tomorrow evening for our usual 7:30 sit, followed by a Dharma talk.
The name of the talk is “This precious human life”. It will be a reflection on the truths of being born human, the inevitability of aging, sickness, death, and separation. These truths can encourage a gloomy outlook on life or seem like an excuse to “live it up” without care for one’s well-being or the well-being of others – “what does it matter anyway”. A wise person would see these truths as a reason to value every moment as an opportunity to develop wisdom and hold everyone in our hearts with kindness and compassion. Instead of cultivating indifference or depression, cultivate joy and an inner harmony. I hope you’ll join me in exploring these reflections and more like them.
Wishing you all well,
